Five engined VC 10

Post by Garry Russell »

Although photos of VC 10's in any flavour are hardly rare........those showing the spare engine carrying pods are quite scarce

Here G-ASGE models the look

Very interesting indeed. I don't think I've seen a non-close-up photo of that before.

That's it really....there are pics of the pods but not so much of the whole aircraft with the pod

I'm surprise you had any Tonks unless it came with the BA stock.

Seeing the RAF VC 10 C1 had a freight door and in any case there were transports available so I doubt that they would ever need to hang spares in a pod

How times do change - for the better of course.
I remember we used to have to send engines to AOG's by cargo a/c if available; in our case Brit 'CF - or even resort to chartering to do the job.
I well remember sweating for ages to get one engine thru the cargo door of a BOAC 707. Blessed if I can remember what it was - bad memory says a P&W for the short lived 'ZD -ex Qantas short nose. It went in, finally, with millimetres each way. Damn thing - still remember it!

I remember seeing a Spey being loaded into a DC-3 once.

Don't forget Court Line bought a Beverley for transporting RB211's
