Hi James...

Basicly yes, but without the reheat. 558 uses 201 series which is slightly less rated that the 301 engined vulcans than flew Black Buck. :)

Shouldn't that be Bristol Olympus on the Vulcan, since they were designed and built before Bristol Siddeley were acquired by Rolls Royce? I've always wandered about this... is it a Rolls Royce Olympus or a Bristol Olympus? I suppose it's the same with aircraft, for example I'd assume BAe Hawk is correct rather than Hawker Siddeley Hawk since it's still in production?

These are the kind of questions that I ponder, I need to find something more important to worry about. :doho:

Just an old fashioned Avro with old fashioned wings
And fabric all tattered and torn
She's got old fashioned Merlins all tied up with strings
And a heater that never gets warm
But she's quite safe and sound cos she won't leave the ground
And she's been afraid of the chop...
One day we will try
To see if she will fly,
While mother looks after the shop

*OK, so it's an old airman's song about Lancasters, but still rather apt I thought ...

What brilliant news! I just saw a video of it on the BBC NEws, and I can tell you, I immediately sent it around my office. A very proud occasion and even though I'm a long way from home, this kind of thing makes it seem a lot closer. Very, very cool news, well done to all those who helped make it a reality
