Today, 25th April, is ANZAC Day.
They have been introducing different Appeal badges over the years.
This year, being the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli landing, there are several new designs, including the Flying Corps side cap.
At first glance, it's hard to decipher what it is. I would have preferred an aeroplane, but beggars can't be choosers.

Great Uncle George, Leeds Rifles, with his mates in France , May 1916. In 3 months, 100 years ago, they were at the Somme.

Thanks, Derek.
How's the spotting equipment, eh?
Must say that I always feel sad, knowing that all the folks in old photos are gone.
Still, they look happy at the time. :)

Can't remember if I've posted these before, old brain box fading. But anyway...

This was Dad

We believe he signed up at 14. Served aboard HMS Anson during WW2.

Walking down the high street in Falmouth with mates.

Don't know much about his service life except that he served in the Pacific.
He was a GRUE operator which was a guns direction finding thing of sorts :dunno:

Never really knew him but always remember him.

Nice shots DTR2 ;)

Not sure if he'd have joined up at 14 mate.. the earliest I know of is 15. Entrants of this age would have gone to HMS Ganges(Ipswich)/HMS St George(Shotley). HMS Raleigh opened in 1940 and was used for (primarily) 20+ year-old conscripts. Pity he wasn't a bit older.. Raleigh isn't far from Falmouth in the grand scale of things :)

We really don't know but suspect he may have lied about his age to avoid going down the mines?
