It's possible and who could have blamed him! There was certainly a lot of that going on and many were not caught.

HMS Anson was a fine looking ship and although in reserve/mothballs for a good few years after the war, she didn't go for scrap until 1957.

You're right, Dave, some very handsome photos on the web.
She spent time escorting Russian convoys. I'm glad I wasn't swabbing the decks at that time:

No.. no swabbing decks under those conditions though there'd have been plenty of 'ice removal' work to keep you warm! :-O

Did HMS Anson serve in the Pacific during WW2.
My father had a load of pictures of the Japanese surrender which I understand were given to all serving personnel at the time ?
I'm also lead to believe that HMS Anson never fired her guns in anger ?
Despite this service was not without danger and I can recall my father mentioning a friend washed over board and someone cut in half by one of the gun mounts during a cleaning accident (again lots of ???).

When ever I asked Dad "What did you do in the war?" he always replied "Two Turks on the end of me bayonet" !
Which was probably not a euphemism at the time lol!

I don't think he saw much, if any action but did mention that he was ordered to shoot dogs in some far eastern place to prevent rabies.
He also got `Jankers` for loosing a Tommy Gun over the side and dropped a case of `graze fuzed` 40mm on their noses which fortunately didn't go off!

Have a look at wiki's entry for her mate.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Anson_%2879%29

You'll see she did serve in the Far East and accepted the surrender of Japanese forces in Hong Kong ;)

Hmm.. looks like a lot of places I'm afraid. Have a look at this link: http://www.naval-history.net/xGM-Chrono-01BB-Anson.htm

It doesn't show what that port is but it details where she was ;)

"History in the Miking"

I've recently scanned some 50/60 year old negatives and uploaded some to the AFV website.http://airspeedsflyingvisit.threadwings ... /index.htm
From the Passenger Lounge, pick "Well, that's how it was" for personal historicals;
and from the Passenger Lounge, pick "Airports", then "Farnborough c.1956"

There's plastic model and Dinky racing car pics added to "Well, that's how it was" since I first posted this.

Unfortunately, the negatives have suffered over the years, and it seems that some of the model shots were too far distant to be of much joy. I'm working on possibilities. We didn't have a zoom lens on the old 35mm camera, so some uploads are extracts of the whole.

Hope you get some pleasure from them.
