Re: Happy 50th Birthday to...
Our Daisy shares her 2nd birthday with the VC10, two wonderful girls, although I ended up having my birthday girl sleeping on my shoulder as we walked round Whitehouse Farm
Very happy birthday VC10.
Very happy birthday VC10.
Ben.
Re: Happy 50th Birthday to...
Must look up when my first VC10 flight was, must have been mid 66, British United Heathrow to Khormaksar, oddly enough there is a ex RAF ground crew chappie (another Taff) here who remembers doing the turnarounds on them. Onward flight from the VC10 was KN452 the last RAF DC 3 on front line service.
Happy Birthday VC10

B****y 'ell - is it that long since I worked in the Weybridge Mould loft on her - actually thats even longer ago 1959? She ages very well. Probably the only aircraft I worked on thats still flying (well apart from the C-5, & I'm not sure that the bits I did are still as they were!)

I worked in the VC10 wing shop in 1960. The sound of dozens of rivet guns hammering away was horrendous. Piecework. Rate Fixers. Inspectors. Happy days? Not really.

Re: Happy 50th Birthday to...
Forty Two mix of VC 10 and the Super version on order for BOAC
I well remember when they cut their order for Standard to 12 they stressed they would be buying 35 Supers...yeah right, 17 in the end
Sometimes you get used to after a bit of a shock...747 for example, but the VC 10 just looked right from the beginning and presented as a first sight in the BOAC livery just made it shine.
There was never any doubt in the public's eye that this was quite a machine and one to be proud of

I met Sir George Edwards at his home once and he said to 'it was a world beater - just 5 yrs too late'.
There is one question you answer for me - during last Friday's presentations I got the impression that the F/E handles the throttles during the approach, responding to the N2 %age calls from the PF. I had always assumed the F/E controlled the throttles during crz only

Re: Happy 50th Birthday to...
Hi Paul,
The pilots hardly ever touch the throttles! On the aprouch they will ask for a power and the eng sets it. Basically, if he AC is clean the plots ask for a speed; if the AC is configured(flaps and slats) they ask or a power. Generally the only time the pilots us the power is for AAR, both giving fuel and receiving and during an abort or the application of reverse thrust, as only the plots have that.

Re: Happy 50th Birthday to...
Is that the best way, or is it just spreading the workload??
