I can only second that!
Due to shortages and cutbacks the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off.

Hands up who had some VC10 birthday cake today !
I had a very good day today a Brooklands with some excellent presentations even if there wasn't a flypast. W/Cdr Brookes, OC 101 Sqdn, got boo'd for that when he explained why there was no flypast.
Chris Orlebar (VC10 & Concorde pilot) gave a particularly amusing presentation. It was a lot more interesting than 'listening to a load of old fogeys talking'
And I got to meet Jelle , plus a guy who out bid me on eBay for some VC10/11 memorabilia . To make matters worse he had some of the stuff on display

Wow...who'd thinks such a sleek jet could be 50 years old
It was though amazing when the Dak reached 25
The old Ten has aged better that I have

Indeed a very happy 50th Birthday to the most beautiful airliner, Vickers Commercial (number) Ten.
A T-tailed masterpiece that has proved itself extremely safe; all the very few accidents, I believe, due to Pilot error.
I hope Brize celebrated the day with a three-ship flypast, maybe? (A re-paint in BOAC (on one side) would have been nice.)
Raise your glass - Here's to another.....erm...year (or so.)

Apparently there where no VC10's in the UK today apart from the one on QRAChris558 wrote:

The Vickers Dev engineer who spoke today at Brookland's said his only complaint was that nobody told them to design/develop it for 50 yrs service

Yep.
No losses caused by a failure of the aircraft as such.....pilot error maintenace blunders two destroyed by terrorists and one in a commando raid.. A good recond indeed.

Re: Happy 50th Birthday to...
A couple of times a month, if you happen to be in Wetherspoons, Trowbridge, you might just overhear a couple of old fogeys reminiscing about flying on VC10s. And the stories get more interesting and amusing in direct ratio to the amount of beer drunk! It'll be a shame when we develop that thing, what's it called, you know, when you can't remember stuff...VC10 wrote:It was a lot more interesting than 'listening to a load of old fogeys
I'm glad it turned out to be a good day, Paul. I see there are two at Fairford this year. One flying and one static. I expect the hospitality there makes it a higher priority for the RAF

I got my 3 year old singing happy birthday to the VC10, as sadly work commitments have prevented any plans to go south.
Here's to a safe final year of service.
