"plane" nostalgia

Post by ianhind »

Not sure that I've seen a link to these pages of photos before: http://www.dhc-2.com/Aird_Aviation_Archives.html

Or is age getting the better of me?

A mix of civil and military at various locations.

In the London Heathrow set the pic of Vanguards G-APEI is of interest.

The date is given as 22 July 1961 which is right is two days after delivery. *-)

Given the fact they didn't, in those days, take delivery and put stright into service but cehcked them over and perhaps modded slightly, that could well be the first day in service. :dunno:

Garry

I thought they might have been posted before, but certainly didn't remember them recently. Only reason I found them was I was checking up on the reality of some USAF C-47s I had in my spotter's log from many years ago.

Also found a load of USAF C-47 photos here: http://www.planeboys.de/thf/militaer/un ... s_c-47.htm

The parent website http://planeboys.de/index.html is worth a look, particularly if you click on one of the airports on the left. Drill down and amongst all the modern stuff there are some oldtimers to be found, eg Decca Navigator Ambassador G-ALZP, Merchantman G-APEP.

Definitely not recently as I mentioned above. *-)

I think it might have been one of the posts lost a couple of years back when there was a server issues and always good to keep these posted for newbies and for updates :)

I could look at sort of thing for hours and in fact often do
