Big girl visits Manchester
Hi guys
This morning whilst out with the family I saw the unmistakable Beluga transport aircraft flying overhead on finals into Manchester. I thought it slightly odd as I checked the aircrafts path on flightradar24 which showed the aircraft approach into its normal destination of Hawarden/Chester and circle before its arrival into Manchester.
Sadly I was on a rest day so I missed the visit. However I know several members of the other shifts so one kindly took a couple of snaps.
Nice to see the big ugly girl.
Still baffled as to why she came into Manchester in the first place.

Ugly as sin I agree but you gotta admire the engineering. How can something that ugly that's not Russian fly in the first place

I haven't got the actuals for Hawarden from this a.m. but it was very misty here until 11 or 1130 and low stratus was still hanging round the Dee estuary as late as 230 pm so i imagine this was a diversion for weather
PS I cannot agree that this aeroplane is ugly. Ungainly on the ground, yes, but when you see it in flight it is strangely beautiful

I agree with that Chris though I'm not sure if it's shock or what. I'm one of the few that think the Victor was a very pleasing aircraft to look at so maybe it's just me.. and you

Hi Chris
Yes, that was my only guess being a weather related diversion.
It was a beautiful morning here.
Apparently it's in EGCC overnight then flying out tomorrow.
Still nice to see it. I do think its a very ugly beast with a huge amount of character.
Like a duck billed platypus.

Add me to the list, I love the Victor (my favourite of the V's) and I really like the Beluga too
Ben.

Quite foggy here this am didnt hear any activity overhead. We are quite close to the flight path for Hawarden and get good views of take offs and landings. I think its a credit to the lads at Broughton that can build a set of wings that can carry that big lump
Funnily enough saw no 3 (always think of thunderbirds) at Naples LIRN last Tuesday, loading or unloading something as the door was open and a big trolley alongside

Looking at the holding pattern and the number of laps I am wondering if it had to burn off some fuel to get down to landing weight?

Hooray! Some more Victor appreciators!
I have previously mentioned my preference for the Victor from the 3 V-bombers.
I note that the name Beluga quite aptly shares a number of letters with "UGLY"

It was probably putting on make-up (in vain).Tako_Kichi wrote:Looking at the holding pattern and the number of laps I am wondering if it had to burn off some fuel to get down to landing weight?
