Just your typical steam locomotive going down the road.

Nice!
I can't help wondering how many fender-benders it caused with all the rubber-neckers trying to film it on their phones instead of concentrating on their driving!

I used to be an optimist but with age I am now a grumpy old pessimist.

Re: Video: Meanwhile, in California...
Nice video.
BTW, if you want to see "working" steam, the Union Pacific still has its own heritage fleet and (will be running) 3 steam locomotives in a few years when they finish the rebuild of the Big Boy UP4014. More - http://www.up.com/aboutup/special_train ... ndex.shtml
Meanwhile, enjoy the UP844 on a run to Wichita, KS, for the College World Series a few weeks ago (without diesel "backup") -
https://youtu.be/ghzyiNDnqVM
Also, one of them going from a dead stop to 55mph+ -
https://youtu.be/DoI7MOWJZ-A
Finally, a shot of 844 being paced at near top speed (~80mph) -
https://youtu.be/HRTYNxtbnjI
The UP's official YouTube page has regular updates on the work going on in the Steam Shop for anyone who's interested - https://www.youtube.com/user/UnionPacificRailroad
Of note, the Union Pacific has fully upgraded their Diesel and Steam heritage units. This means adding Distributed Power controls and end of train telemetry units in addition to Positive Train Control computers. The DPU controls allow the leading locomotive to remotely control other locomotives that are not directly attached to the locomotive. On the steam locomotives, this also allows them to control diesel locomotives that are attached directly to the tenders as the steam locomotive does not have controls to be able to operate them directly via the Multiple Unit cables since they have continuous throttles instead of "notched" controls.

Re: Video: Meanwhile, in California...
What a very elegant piece of kit .I don't remember seeing such a beautiful looking American locomotive before . A shame that they don't appear to be steaming it at the moment, or are my eyes deceiving me ?
Re: Video: Meanwhile, in California...
Well that's a fine steam loco, Brian.
I'm partial to a 2-8-4 Berkshire type , the Nickle Plate Road 765.
why you ask?.

As I knew her growing up in Fort Wayne, IN as she sat in Lawton Park from 1963 until restoration.
Oh , my alma mater's band tootled away during the ceremony in 63.
There is something in the picture on the Engine that is off. Anyone that spots it has a shot at Paul K's Renault Laguna
