What a great pilot and inspiration. My youngest daughter (11) has absolutely no interest in aviation But...she does want a career in engineering. Thanks to people like Joy, we now live in a world where 'girls can do boys jobs' and my daughter has the world at her feet. Thanks Joy.
I was deeply saddened to read this news earlier today.
In recent years, I have seen her interviewed in several documentaries about the RAF in WWII. Very recently, I also saw her in another documentary that had nothing to do with the RAF (I can't remember what it was).
She made a wonderful contribution to the war effort (not to mention, probably having a lot of fun flying those aircraft).
As Alex says, she has also made a wonderful contribution in inspiring women into careers that had previously seemed, if not closed, very difficult to enter.
