A woman had front row tickets to the FA cup final. As she sat down a man asked if anyone was sitting next to her.
“No she said, the seat is empty”
“That’s incredible” said the man. “Who in their right minds would have a seat like this and not use it?”
The woman said “Actually it was my husband’s but he’s passed away. It’s the first time we’ve not been together since we were married”
“Oh I’m so sorry” said the man, “Could you not bring a friend or neighbour?”
“No” said the woman. “They’re all at his funeral”

When I first heard that tale (many years ago) it was a guy sitting alone and everyone was at his wife's funeral.
It seemed to work better that way around.
