Flugplatz Fest St.Stephan 2019 (photos)

Post by TobyV »

Photos from the annual air show at St. Stephan in Switzerland, formerly known as "Hunterfest". Quite a few classic aircraft, many British. Highlight this year was a number (8 or so?) of Tiger Moths that were flown in (in multiple legs) from England. Unfortunately I set off later than planned and the traffic on the Autobahn towards Bern was very heavy so I arrived 75 mins later than planned and missed the morning's flying. In the afternoon the weather was closing in whilst the Swiss Air Force PC7 team were displaying and flying seemed to be shortened for other displays, with me (in shorts, t-short, hat and sunglasses) eventually running for my car with a plastic bag wrapped around multiple thousand Swiss Francs worth of camera and lens to try to keep the rain off!

Shame you missed the Moths flying Toby, but terrific pictures as always. Can't say I recall seeing a camouflaged Vampire before. Would the sixth from the bottom be a Dakadakdakadaka...

I'll get my coat...

Stunning pics Toby. The aircraft in flight behind the Dak look like Beech 18s or similar with 2 bladed props or is that an illusion?
What a perfect setting as well  EricT

Eric, yes they are. Unfortunately I didn't get any "sharp" pics of those so hence not posted. This is the first airshow I've been to this year and I'm out of practice. I didn't have the best luck with the light either due to the weather, so of about 500 shots, these were pretty much the only acceptable ones.

Ben the white Hunter is called "Papyrus".

As always, a great set of photos Toby. You certainly get to see some of the more unusual aircraft - not sure that OV-10 has been seen in the UK, at least not in that paint scheme. Is it one of the Bronco Display Team's machines - Tony DeBruyn and company ? I thought they still flew in German colours.

Paul, the Bronco is French registered and appears to belong to this museum: http://www.meacmtl.com/
