Snail mail gets slower

Post by Airspeed »

Australia Post is staggering under the weight of increased mail due to COVID - 19.
The solution? Reduce deliveries to every other day in the metro area, and relax delivery targets in rural zones.
Of course! Why didn't I think of that?

This follows my exasperating day yesterday:
I had a tracking number which was shown as loaded in Ballarat 08:22 for delivery. (55km away)
Kept a close eye on the gate, as many delivery people tend to drop a card in the letterbox, saying they missed you, come and collect from the post office. Then they drive off before you make it to the gate.
By late afternoon, no sign, so I checked the computer again. "Your parcel was delivered at 13:59."
Rang to ask wtf was going on at 16:40. At 17:05, they finally answered the phone.
(them) Yes it was delivered blah blah.
(me) No It was not, where is it?
(them) I'll check
wait...........
(them) It was dropped at the post office at 13:59
(me) I ordered door to door courier, why was it left at the post office, and it was supposed to be express, so why didn't somebody call me to say it was there?
(them) I can't say.
NOT ONE WORD OF APOLOGY
Had to go to Ballarat today, then dash back for my flu shot.
Then I went to the po and asked for my parcel.
They handed it over, with a follow up label attached, with 3 dates:
21/4/20 Arrived (lordy lordy, they got that bit right)
28/4/20 Reminder (they were happy to let an express parcel sit for a week after not carding my letterbox in the first place)
5/5/20 Final reminder.
I can't say I'm speechless, as I obviously am not.
