I saw them clearly from Walton-on-Thames. Very impressive formation. Sadly, smoke not on.

Glad you got to see them. Even without smoke, it must have been impressive.
I've watched it on YouTube. The Red Arrows look to have a sharper V formation than La Patrouille de France. I guess these are each team's standard V formation, as they will use certain points on adjacent aircraft to formate. Looked great over Buckingham Palace with smoke on!

This is what I saw.
