Re: It has Happened!!
Scientifically speaking... white is the presence of all colors and black is the absence of color.

That applies to light, but when mixing paint, dyes or pigments the rule is reversed.

I concur, but look at it this way. No matter what pigments are used to color an object, if you and me and a pigmented object are in total darkness.. what color will our eyes see? Black? No
What our eyes see (or what our brain is interpreting) is the absence of color.
Take the same pigmented object In a lighted room .. what color we see will depend on several things.
The Kelvin temperature of light that is falling on the surface of the object. Even our health, the health of our eyes, color correctness, suger levels , blood pressure ....
Except Vantablack I should think.
Please forgive my crude explanation.. or interpretation of things I've learned from photography, my experience as an electrician lighting buildings ... using different kelvin temperatures , direct lighting, indirect lighting...
defusing light using parabolic covers, prismatic lenses.. and even night - lights.

It was the name of a dog, it's still mentioned in any history of the raids where the full context is available. If you're learning history from gravestones you're doing it wrong.
What it isn't is on public display so any ethnic minority member of the services can see it and draw the conclusion their employer cares more about the name of a deceased pet than having racial slurs on display. Imagine trying to explain that to a 19 year old working for you. 'Oh yes I know it's grossly offensive to you, but you must understand it was Gibson's dog.'

Re: It has Happened!!
What your eye 'sees' is light reflected from the object you are looking at. If an object is painted white, it will reflect all the colours in the spectrum. If it is painted black, it will absorb all colours. If it is painted green, it will absorb all the spectrum colours except green, and so on. On an overcast moonless night, you won't see any colour at all, because there is no light source to be reflected.
