Gold award for getting the aircraft right, diamond if you identify the Mk.

Re: Bitzer project
Methinks you've had enough of this one.
Some are staying away, fearing a trap? As if I would!
I'll post the results in about 20 hours.

Re: Bitzer project
No overnight entries, so here we go with the results:
Diamond awards to those who nominated the Spitfire MkIX:
Brian (Fly Texas), Keith (Dev One), EDIT IN Eric (Tomliner) with apologies, Joe (blanston12), Ben (TSR2), AllanL, JohnD.
Gold goes to Members who picked the MkV:
Den (511Flyer), Mick (woody901), Paul K.
And a BONUS STAR to AllanL, who not only identified it as a MkIXC, but without prompting, gave his reasons, which were also correct. The two underwing radiators determined MkIX, as there was only one on the MkV, and the wing armament narrowed it down to a "C"
Again, thanks to everyone who was "in it"
Extensive discussion here about wing types, which I found interesting:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supermari ... ts)#A_type
Followed by some more discussion on A,B,C here:
http://spitfiresite.com/2010/04/spitfir ... aried.html
There are line drawings of the wing types on a Russian site which really clarified the situation for me.
I was quite disappointed with my copy of "Spitfire a Complete Fighting History" which I found exasperating to search the info. I wanted.

Hi Mike. You said you were happy with my answer of the MK9 but I don’t appear in your awards list. EricT

Re: Bitzer project
Where will it all end, Eric? This time, I marked everyone off as I posted from the book, but I'd left you out of the book.
Despite us exchanging a couple of messages.
I'm off to edit you in, with sincere apologies.

Re: Bitzer project
Well, I'm not winning any awards for accurate results reporting.
Obviously the quality control has to be stepped up to match the increased volume.
With trepidation, I offer a more intact 27-03
PM identifications only please.

I know what it sort of looks like, but that's about all.

Re: Bitzer project
Yes Paul, as I've had to mention in the PMs, it's a very common overall appearance for its time.
I think that school kids in the 50's would probably have drawn that general shape to put an aeroplane in their pictures.
