Well, one thing's for certain - I won't be winning this one! Those noisy smelly things called engines have always been a total mystery to me so I'll just make a silly guess - a Rolls-Royce Griffon - and retire hurt. :hide:

Looks like everyone went for RR, so well done.
Pete has obviously developed a "super power" much loved by our Grandsons in their computer games.
Pete's super power is cracking the Bitzer project! :agree: Congratulations, Sir!

Bitzer administration had already decided that the correct answer would win an appropriate inaugural Engineer's Oily Cloth
so that's your prize, Pete. Allowing for manufacturing time, you can expect delivery tomorrow AEDST.

Thank you Mike, I accept the prize with gratitude a little bit of embarrassment as I had a slight advantage over the others. We have a sectioned Griffon on display at Tangmere in the Battle of Britain Hall (yes, yes, I know but it was the only place we had room for it at the time!) and, having viewed it and photographed it from various angles, I thought it looked familiar. You can see it behind the wreckage of Sgt Denis Noble's 43 Squadron Hurricane in this photo.

Feast your eyes on this collection. I'll reward ANY right answers, even if you can't name them all, though I bet you will.

They're all X planes.

1) Bell X-1A
7) Douglas X-3

Not sure on the others without googling.
