I wrote up the results, then I went shopping.
Came back, saw it on the screen, then went off to check the TV guide.
Now I find that I did not hit submit. :$
I wrote something along the lines of:
The answer is what Keith nearly said; Curtiss AT-9 JEEP.

Who do we find on the podium this time?
Earning diamond badges for getting it right first time, in order of receipt-
Brian (Fly Texas), Keith (Dev One), PeteP, Pete (MilesMan), Joe (blanston12), and Simondix.
Don't fidget, or I might stick the pin right in you.

Getting it right on his third try, and scoring a silver award...getting tough aren't I? :OB:

Now, I need to add a new rule....
If you think that you have submitted an identification, and realise when it's all over that you didn't successfully submit your PM, I'll give an award one level down from what you would have got. I know how easy it is to muck up, like I did as described above. For me, it's just embarrassment, for you, it's a lesser virtual award.

Picture of AT9 in my Dad's album. It was either taken by him or he was flying the AT9 more likely the former. He went out to the USA under the Arnold scheme and remained over there for a year or so instructing on twins. The AT-9 was one of those he learnt and taught on.
When he got back to Britain he remained an Instructor teaching Instructors on Oxfords.

Hi All,
We've had almost an equal number of correct identifications, as incorrect.
I think that the "winners" will be starting to get itchy feet.
If anyone is still working on it, there's 24 hours open for you.
Good luck, and remember that multiple guesses, one at a time, are welcome.

No more takers, so we're left with 6 correct answers, 5 not so right.
Right first time were:
Keith (Dev One), Eric (Tomliner), Pete (Motormouse), Pete (MileMan), Simon (simondix).
Diamonds for you fine fellows...Image
Whilst Mick (woody901) cracked it on his second pick.
Gold for you, fine fellow...Image
Thanks All for being there!
And the two part nose to tail:
