No overnight entries, so here we go with the results:
Diamond awards to those who nominated the Spitfire MkIX:
Brian (Fly Texas), Keith (Dev One),
EDIT IN Eric (Tomliner) with apologies, Joe (blanston12), Ben (TSR2), AllanL, JohnD.
Gold goes to Members who picked the MkV:
Den (511Flyer), Mick (woody901), Paul K.
And a
BONUS STAR to AllanL, who not only identified it as a MkIXC, but without prompting, gave his reasons, which were also correct.
The two underwing radiators determined MkIX, as there was only one on the MkV, and the wing armament narrowed it down to a "C"
Again, thanks to everyone who was "in it"
Extensive discussion here about wing types, which I found interesting:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supermari ... ts)#A_type
Followed by some more discussion on A,B,C here:

There are line drawings of the wing types on a Russian site which really clarified the situation for me.
I was quite disappointed with my copy of
"Spitfire a Complete Fighting History" which I found exasperating to search the info. I wanted.
