Saw a doco. about the above recently.
First thing we noticed was; there was NO litter even between the rails at stations.
Next; NO graffiti on the rolling stock, and no scratches on the windows.
Then whilst they were pointing out historical points along the journey; public stocks where unmarried pregnant women were chained to be abused by the locals. No comment regarding whether the man involved was even sought. They also mentioned that if a soldier raped a woman, he was given a warning; if he did it again, he was fined; if he did it a third time, he was put in the stocks. I wonder which gender was making the rules
