I am in the smoke but fortunately no active fires close by. I don't know if you heard what happened to Big Basin State Park in California. Its the oldest state park in California, it and we love it because its only about an hour from the bay area but your totally away from it, no cell phone coverage and lots of great redwood trees, and we were set to camp there and two days before we are supposed to go up a big lighting storm comes through, which we never get and sets off all kinds of fires all over the place and it sweeps through the park and burns up the place we were supposed to stay, destroying all the buildings from the early 1900's but sounds like most of the giant ancient redwoods survived and its been smokey here ever since. In the hills behind the town I live there were fires that caused evacuations within 5 miles of my place but fortunately there was not too much damage here.

I have a sister who lives in Bend Oregon who are getting it pretty bad also, while there fires are not very close (50 miles) the air quality is very bad and when I talked to her yesterday the air quality index was 531 and I though the maximum value was 500.

Sounds like a war zone in many ways Joe. Think of you all.

Even though thankfully, you are clear of the threat of the fires it cannot be a very nice situation you and your sister are facing.

Just hope that rain comes soon and dampens down these fires, I feel so sorry for those who have lost loved ones as well as their homes.

Stay safe.

Regards
Nigel.

We are between Portland and Seattle and so we are in the smoke as well. :'( :'(

The sinuses are really acting up and have to wear a mask just to water the lawn. Things may clear up later this week, but then again nothing is for sure. We've had to cancel some outside activities so as to not breath in any particulates.

We've seen TV reports and pictures, but it can't covey the reality of what is happening.

Good wishes are with you guys. Hope you and your families stay safe and well.

Den.

We are in day 4 of the smoke. It rained a little last night, but not enough to get rid of it. I just took a small drive to mail a letter and visibility on the roads is still bad. They forecast the smoke will be around for a couple more days, and possibly washed out with heavier rain by the end of the week. Local news still reports on all the fires on the West Coast, and the fatalities are climbing.

Today we actually have good air quality (AQI score of 10) and I have my windows open. We will see how long it lasts.
