Re: News: Queen Mary Could Capsize If Urgent Repairs Aren't Made
I can't claim to have seen the Queen Mary but I have certainly have heard her. My family and I came to the Colonies on the original Queen Elizabeth in 1959. During second the night, we passed the Queen Mary and both ships acknowledged the presence of the other by sounding their horns.
I certainly hope the Queen Mary can be saved as alas, the Queen Elizabeth met her demise in Hong Kong harbour. The Colonists should never be trusted to preserve anything!

I used to stop my ships from capsizing by sticking a bit of plasticine under the keel; have people forgotten the simple solutions
I couldn't get the camera down into the sink for a waterline shot though.

His father is Prince Charles.AllanL wrote: ↑24 May 2021, 22:41So sad, that's what you get when you let Colonists get their hands on Royalty. (Duke of Windsor etc.)
The ginger git should have known better too. Should have listened to his father, or Prince Charles.
As a lad I knew the last Chief Engineer of the Queen Mary. I believe he retired after the last voyage to Long Beach.
A Scot - of course. Dilithium crystals had nothing on the QM boilers.

It's been taken over by the local council for repairs. What could possibly go wrong ?

Our local council couldn't even subcontract road resurfacing without an embarrassing outcome.
Then they tried to refit an old cinema as council offices; that has been boarded up for years due to cost blowouts and general incompetence.
Good luck QM.

I’ve no doubt she’ll be scraped now. I’m sure the city has much more important stuff to be spending million of pounds on.

I think you could be right Ben, the costs would far out-weigh anything that could be made in returns, i.e. continuing to use it as a floating hotel, meetings, cinema, theatre, and anything else you can think of. It is a big shame but can we afford to get too sentimental?
