Painting software for FSX dds files

Post by Motormouse »

Ok chaps, a question about fsx repaints, I have psp8, but no option to save as dds bitmap, so how to go from plain bmp files to dds files please.

You can use the nVidia Photoshop plugins with PSP apparently, but I don't use PSP so I'm not sure of the steps involved. Google should help there.
You can use imagetool from the FSX or P3d SDKs to convert, or you can use dxtBMP.

The Nvidia dds plugin works with photoshop, Paintshop Pro & Gimp
probably a few more

I only use photoshop 5.5 to flatten PSD then export to dds
all my paint etc is from Paint Shop Pro 5

For what it's worth Pete.. I still do it the old fashioned way. Save the flipped image as a 24bit bmp then convert it to .dds using DXTBmp. If an image has a 'proper' alpha.. I save that off the original and add it in DXTBmp before I save as .dds. Looked at using the plugins but got scarred
