Base for Lightnings and Hunters
I have a very talented freeware scenery designer who is interested in doing a RAF Airfield in Germany for FSX. He would like to have it applicable (in perhaps different eras) for both the Lightning and the Hunter. The Lightning choices appear to be RAF Geilenkirchen (ETNG) or RAF Gutersloh (ETUO), but I can find no references to see whether these airfields ever had Hunters assigned.
I'm also interested in finding a UK airfield that had both Hunter and Lightning squadrons assigned there at some point.
AlphaSim will release or revise the Lightning Pack, and Dave Garwood will eventually redo the Hunter.
OK my British cousins, how about some ideas please. What are the best choices here?
If you can also recommend any references it would be a help.
Best Regards,
Bill

Re: Base for Lightnings and Hunters
Hi Bill,
This is something that is much needed in my view, as the RAF in the 50's, 60's & 70's had such a significant prescense in Germany. It would seem Gutersloh had at least one version of Hunter.... http://www.spyflight.co.uk/fr10.htm and it would be great to see this base recreated.
On the UK front, perhaps one of the Airfields no longer in existance... Binbrook... The Lightnings were definately ther, and I'm pretty certain Hunters were too.
Heres, some Binbrook info...

Hope thats of some use.

Re: Base for Lightnings and Hunters
RAF Gutersloh will cover Hunters as well as Lightnings (and even Pumas ;-) ), but I have very little info on the place.
RAF Jever was a base for Hunters and Swifts and Sabres, check out the drop down box (RAF Jever) for Sqn details and FULL pilots notes for the Hunter F6 and Sabre!

Re: Base for Lightnings and Hunters
The RAFG locations would be greatly appreciated, as they are (in the main) sorely lacking from the FS world. I think there might be a Wildenrath and/or Laarbruch over at Avsim, but don't quote me on that.
XR219, if you are missing a Binbrook scenery then you might consider looking over at the Sim-Outhouse. Search under "Cees Donker" who has covered quite a few locations, mainly for WW2 purposes, but also some 50-60's in the form of Binbrook and Wattisham. He has also done a bit of an update for the stock Leuchars scenery.

IIRC West Raynham had both types for a while.

Re: Base for Lightnings and Hunters
I'd love to see Geilenkirchen. It's still used by the USAF (for training) and the Germans have aircraft based there as I recall.
