Double ejectee

Post by Town »

If this is not in the right place mods please feel free to move it.

We received an order for a copy of the Sea Vixen yesterday by a chap living in Australia, and in his comment section he added the paragraph below.

For the record I am an ex Sea Vixen double ejectee, first ejected from XN710 with David Dunbar Dempsey,890 Squadron,Ark Royal,East Malayan Coast 29 Aug 1963. Second ejection with Lt Chris Hunneyball. Sea Vixen XS586 straight off the catapult of Victorious,893 Squadron, 5 Aug 1966. Think I'll be safe with your product though I am very impressed having seen the promo.... To my knowledge no-one else survived two jumps from the FAA widowmaker.

Just a little bit of general interest I thought you chaps might enjoy.

I had no idea the Sea Vixen had the reputation of being a Widowmaker in the FAA. Apart from Mr De Havilland I didnt think it had any other than a fairly normal service run....?

There is a web site dedicated to the Sea Vixen and crews.

Ejection History (.org.uk) certainly concurs that (S/Lt, later Lt WH) banged out twice. What rotten luck!

Good old Mr. Baker. Intresting to read how high the failure rates were in the Sea Vixen. A real tragety for all those who were affected. :-(
