Hi Rick,

Read that link fine. I'm a registered user but not of any forum of theirs as far as I know.

There really isn't any need to upload anyones aircraft to a site is there. All they had to say is 'this is the aircraft we use.. go get it there and if you want repaints.. get em from here'. Another case of the U.S. being above the law!

Rick, while I share your anger, I have to step in and protest your statement. Since you have their ISP information, all you have to do is send that ISP the required information that they're hosting pirated works and they'll be pulled very quickly. The USA takes any copyright infringement very seriously, but you cannot expect any law enforcement agency or host to constantly check for copyright infringement in what is (honestly) a "niche" market. However, the moment they're notified, they will act on any acts and they will act very swiftly and harshly.

In my time with this hobby, I know of a dozen persons in the US whom have been put in federal prison for copyright infringement relating to the resale of freeware products or the repackaging of payware products without proper license. However, I know of at least another dozen in Europe and South America whom haven't and should have because the law enforcement in those countries do not prosecute intellectual property crimes. I can think of 2 orginizations whom have multiple employees whom should be in jail right now for their deeds and one was based in the UK but the employees only got a slap on the wrist and told not to do it again. Had the same thing been done in the US they would have gotten a minimum of 5 years of federal confinement (which means he would have served all 5 years in full. No getting out early on parole or for "good behavior") in addition to a fine of $10,000+.

Thats it then Rick get in touch with the FBI and hopefully Sculley will perform an autopsy on the guy..preferably whilst he is alive :D
Re pirated software I doubt very much if we all can be sure we have not had it in the past either by knowledge or ignorance...
I think making money out of FS is not a sure thing unless your Big Bill of Microshaft.. Sadly turning a hobby into a business is a quick way of losing interest in a hobby!

Generally speaking you will got more luck contacting the hosting company than the individual. Very often they will contact the individual and threaten to pull their site if they don't withdraw the pirated software.

You can do a traceroute to see where the site is hosted, and a lookup on that domain for contact info.

Too right! Flightsim.com pirate almost everything I upload to AVSIM. I suppose I should be flattered that they think my work is so wonderful that they couldn't bear their paying users to miss it, but I do wish they wouldn't keep inventing their own (usually wrong) descriptions instead of using an extract of the readme.txt.
