I don't think you can lay the blame on flightsim.com completely, I seriously doubt the actual staff are uploading your things. In my experience it's someone else who has downloaded things and then uploads them to other websites, I've had a lot of problems with my repaints appearing in various places where I didn't upload them and every time it was some soul who felt they were doing me a favour.johnhinson wrote:Too right! Re: Ripping me off again
John, there is only one person who approves files for upload - Nels Anderson, the site owner. If you don't like that people are uploading your works, send him an e-mail -
He will answer your e-mail and he will not allow uploads of your files unless they meet your specifications or he can confirm you are the one uploading them.
BTW, if you wish to slander Flightsim.com, it would help if you disclose the fact that AVSIM while not charging a membership fee does make a not-so-unabashed request for a donation every time you try to download something, does treat the design groups who upload to their website like sh*t, and does have an arse of an owner who on more than one occasion has banned individuals who dared to say something less than absolutely glowing about one of his "supporters" (i.e. developers who pay him and his website to do reviews).
Sorry, but I would rather pay my money to Nels and know I can speak directly to him on any day of the week and be treated fairly and be allowed to express my views within their forums without concern about being banned if I have a question or doubt about a product reviewed on their site. 3 groups I've been affiliated have suffered the wrath of Tom Allensworth and every time Nels has been more than welcoming of those groups and given them anything they needed and a lot they didn't for free (including webspace on his servers).

Re: Ripping me off again
When the first couple of uploads appeared on Flightsim, I was prepared to accept that somebody thought they were doing me a favour (although why should anybody want to waste their time doing so?) but I can't believe this would consistently happen for what must be well over a hundred files now. It doesn't actually bother me a great deal because I'm not as possessive about my work as some are. Look at it another way - I only have to upload each file once. And if I didn't want to share my work, I wouldn't upload it to any site in the first place.
I did not intend my comments about Flightsim to be slanderous, Chris. I could name-drop matey-matey first names at AVSIM, too - I find them very all friendly and helpful so I could equally suggest you are being slanderous about AVSIM too. If the moderators of this group think I am being slanderous they are welcome to remove my posting from here but I hope yours would be removed as well to make things fair.
Kindest regards,
John

Re: Ripping me off again
John,
Again, have you e-mailed Nels? Have you asked to have him not allow your files to be uploaded without your specific permission?
Before you go slandering (and that is what you're doing) another website for something that they *AREN'T* doing Nel's chosen method of supporting the site, you have to prove that they know that they're doing something wrong first. Have you ever gone to upload files on Flightsim.com? All that is required is that they have a proper readme and file.idz file, be virus free, and they'll upload the file. They do not try to verify the person uploading the file is the author, just as AVSIM doesn't verify either. As long as the proper parts of the file are in order, the file goes up, just like at AVSIM.
Now, since it seems to be such a big deal to you John (this is only the 4th or 5th time you've brought this up) I'll do you a favor and e-mail Nels myself and ask him to stop accepting uploads of files which name you as the author.
BTW, I'm not name dropping. Nels puts his name and e-mail address out on his website quite publicly for all who wish to contact him to do so. Tom Allensworth has yet to do so. The only way of contacting AVSIM is via "portal" addresses and one can never be sure if Tom actually sees them. He has a fairly large staff that does most of the work for him. Nels does it almost all by himself. That's the difference in the two sites. Tom runs a corporation, Nels runs a business. As I said, if you don't like your files being uploaded (and it appears you don't since you keep bringing it up every couple of months) all you had to do to get it to stop was send Nels an e-mail.
I'm done with this thread. I'm sick of hearing the same complaints about piracy and "woe is me" mentality that is spreading across this hobby. Take action. Contact the host, contact the owner of the website that's hosting the files (if it's a repository site), contact law enforcement, or just make your mind up and stop uploading. I'm sorry, but it's getting old that every 2-3 months I see a thread on here about how it's so bad that a file's getting uploaded here or there and how fed up you are about it but yet you don't really ever do anything to stop it. If you're not going to take the time to send out an e-mail after a few minutes of research on who to contact, then don't complain about how there are bad people in the world. It's a given and it's going to happen. You either accept it and go on with life or your fight it and let people know that you're not going to stand for them abusing your generosity.

Re: Ripping me off again
Chris,
Are you confusing me with somebody else?
I'm almost certain this is the first time I have mentioned Flightsim.com inany forum.
I also said here:
"I should be flattered that they think my work is so wonderful"
"It doesn't actually bother me a great deal because I'm not as possessive about my work as some are"
"Look at it another way - I only have to upload each file once"
"if I didn't want to share my work, I wouldn't upload it to any site in the first place"
I do hope you have not said anything inappropriate in the email you have sent Flightsim asking them to black me from their server.

Re: Ripping me off again
Just a small point, there is link on the AVSIM site which will get you the e-mail address of ALL the staff (including me, despite not actually being staff now
) if you want anything removed from the site. E-mails are normally answered in a matter of minutes if you use , as everybody on the staff (they are all around the globe) gets a copy.
Here is the link to get a list of staff e-mails..

Rick I am sorry to learn of the copyright infringement issues you are having.
Your freeware models are some of the best I have seen and surpasss quite a few payware models.
At present I am enjoying the HS748 and Aw650 immensly. I flew F27's in the real world quite a few years ago and would love to see a good F27-500 modelled. However the HS748 is not unsimilar and is an absolute joy to fly.
I would hate to see any future works from you compromised through the thoughtless actions of a few.
As an average Joe Bloggs simmer please keep up the excellent work.
Cheers
