Moving of Aircraft

I still think it would be nice if a PM had been sent asking if I would be returning the aircraft or to say
it was getting returned by the MANAGEMENT.
I am a fairly active pilot and I was sorting out some Viscount problems. It would have been returned.
I know where all my planes are if off station and they do get returned.

Trouble is trying to take account af all the scattered aircraft is difficult so perhaps if you do go through a patch like like with a few things going on as so often happens then perhaps you could PM requesting that the aircraft be left there .

I can't see any problem with that.

As it stood there were a few getting abandoned and yours would have looked just like any of those and the fleet mangager can't rellay be expected to check and PM the pilots and wait for a reply.

Discretion will always be used but sadly it does not always work well for cases such as yours.

My type rating is up next month on the 780 so I thought I would pop along to Northolt to get some time in but alas, Flynet says no aircraft available.

Any forecast for one please?

You're unlikely to find an Andover there, seeing as it is not a designated base for the type, try somewhere like Brize instead.

Hi Richard,

Looked at the route enquiry under the virtual airline link and it suggests trhat there are 6 flights from Norholt with the Andover, but I may be missing something here.

You need to not use the Route Inquiry for where the Designated Bases are. See the proper thread in the forum, the link from the Stats database, or look at any aircraft of the type you're interested in for the list of where aircraft are supposed to be based.

Yes Richard.. don't be fooled by checking the 'Routes' page.. something that I did in my infancy ;-) Look at the Fleet list.. select HS780 and 'Location' to see where they all are. One was at Northolt (off station) for ages although Northolt is not a designated base

Having just noticed this thread, I duly accept responsibility for moving G-AYOX, about which the complaint has been made. I apologised for the inconvienence via PM, whilst explaining my reasoning behind it. Unfortunately I did not receive a reply, instead the incident has been carried into this thread. This particular flight, together with another five, I think, on that particular day, repositioned a number of aeroplanes which had been off station for in excess of two months. Unfortunately due to commitments in the real world I don't have time to either send, or wait for responses to, messages asking for permission to retrieve seemingly abandoned aircraft, nor have I any way of fortelling any individuals incapacity to return them personally.

For the record, on my part as Turboprop Fleet Manager, I will be delighted to accommodate the wishes of pilots who need to keep any aeroplane off station for any plausible reason. Obviously I would need to be informed of this to avoid the case in question repeating itself, and this has worked well on a number of occasions in the past. :kissu:

Hi Fraser

Having it drummed into me over the eighteen months I have been flying with the VA
that you do not take aircraft that pilots have off station whatever the length of time
it was maybe a knee-jerk reaction on my part.
Now I know that they can be moved by the people who look after the aircraft
I'll be more circumspect about leaving aircraft off station

I honestly didn't realise that you did a tidy up of aircraft.

Maybe I am missing something. I think I agree with the majority that its fine to occasionally leave an aircraft at an airport for an extended period of time until you can get back and complete your flights, I myself have done this a few times. But what I don't think is ever OK is fly an aircraft away from its base and leave it there while your pilot buys a ticket to a different city to fly something else.

I would think that as a general rule, if an airframe is away from its base and the pilot who last few it is not present at that airport the aircraft is free for the taking.
