Meteors upcoming from Sky-unlimited!

Post by Trev Clark »

After a wait of many years, it seems one of the most overlooked types (the Meteor Mk. 8 in the shots) the single seat Meatbox will make an appearance in MSFS (both FS9 and FSX) as Sky Unlimited have posted some shots at SOH.

You have to join SOH to see the (rather small) shots, but the VC looks promising!!! Release is not too far away either.

Better shots here now....

Hi everyone. I have been trying to spread my wings into a few new message boards, and since I get quite a few links from this forum to my site, I thought this might be a great community to start checking up on.

So hello, and please bare with me as I get accustomed to the atmosphere and rules around here.

Thought some of the Raf experts could help me with this one.

The gauge designer ran into this meteor gauge, and he is wondering how it functions.

No it's a Magasyn Compass...Should be a knob on it to set the desired Course to steer and then you just turn the aircraft till those two parallel white lines run straight up and down the instrument. The card is slaved to a detector unit in the wing, which keeps the card "N" pointing North so keeping those parallel white lines straight "Up and Down" will also keep the Heading that you set under the pointer at the Top...The heading at the top (twelve o'clock) is the magnetic heading that the aircraft is steering. Sometimes it will be seen on an aircraft that has a gyro DI (Direction Indicator) fitted, in which case the DI can be set to what the Magasyn compass is indicating...This will need to be re-done periodically as the DI will precess slightly with time, or be completely toppled by aerobatics. DIs should really have the knob pushed in to cage the instrument before doing aerobatics and then for more normal flight, re-synchronised with the compass :flying:

BTW...The Meteors that I flew were not fitted with the Magasyn Compass...They had the later G4F slaved compass and no DI. However, I did fly Vampire 5s with the Magasyn Compass and DI.
