Hi Chaps,
I'm hoping someone can help me. It used to be the case that if you missed the post on Saturday you could take an item to your nearest mail centre post box on the sunday and it would still get processed. I know when i lived in Edinburgh I would take the odd letter to the Sighthill mail centre on Sunday and it would usually get there for Monday. Trouble is I have no idea where the sorting centre is in the Newcastle area, or if they do Sunday collections from anywhere in the area (I think this was stopped some years back.) I have a package I need to get posted tomorrow so that it gets there on Monday. Can anyone help me out with some advice?
Cheers

You're having to endure the inferior services that the English have to live with
(because all extra the money goes to Scotland ;-) ).
I think the best Royal Mail could ever did in recent years was a later collection on Saturday evening from the main sorting office - several times I have driven into the centre of Nottingham to catch the last post.
I suspect that your only chance now is some very expensive courier service. Or any reader going from Newcastle to you parcel's destination.

Ben,
I used to work at the GPO many years ago in the sorting office at Ipswich, we always had a hole in the wall that was checked through the night, wasn't supposed to but depended on which supervisor was on.
You need to find the large sorting office in your area, they used to be called MLOs, I think, shame fully I've forgotten all the acronyms, BT and GPO lived for acronyms !, anyway I think there called delivery centers now. I've no idea where in South Shields you live but a quick google and sat pictures certainly shows that Monkton Road is a delivery center ( size of building and number of cars out side )

Thats about the best I can do from memory.
It may also be too late now anyway, depends where its going to in the country, there used to be mail trains and those were the deadlines, I think mail still goes by rail, cant imagine all those bags going by road, I know the TPOs were stopped a few years back but dumb bags must still go by rail....I digress
.
Best
Michael

Re: Help with Royal Mail
Thanks chaps,
Just had a look at that list and all of those delivery centres seem quite small compaired to the mail centre at Sighthill in Edinburgh, so I'm guessing I may have been spoiled when I was up there. Never mind, I'll take it along and stick it in the box, and let the recipient know it might be Tuesday.
Appreciate your efforts chaps.
