I think we have a different story with Merlin though. Who'll be doing the 'bigger' refurbs on the UK aircraft when the time comes?? It certainly WON'T be the RAF or Army ;-)

and the military guys are all being de-skilled (compared to when I woz 'in', I don't think anyone works overhaul or deep strip sections now) to keep it that way.

I honestly don't know the answer to that. My understanding was that all UK Merlins would go for deep refits at Culdrose which, although houses a Lockheed Martin base, would involve the 'Senior Service'
