"Scrap" planes

Now I count 96 Phantoms, 2 F-16s and 71.5 what I think are F-5s. My question is do our armed Forces even have anything like this many fighters in service? It worries me how few bases we seem to have now, even large famous ones being closed. How many Harriers, Tornados and Eurofighters do we actually operate these days?

I drove past Davis-Monthan a few years back on holiday, having just visited the Pima Air Museum, so I had gone looking for it! Didn't stop me nearly crashing the car rubber necking all the aircraft in there and thinking 'They'll never miss one Phantom'!

Wait... you were coming from Pima and you had to look for AMARG? It's right across the street (literally)...

It is a massive location and sadly all too many of them will be scrapped instead of going to a good home at a museum (or even better a flying organization).

I think them F-5s might be T-38 Talons, also from Northrop, and I reckon six F-16s. And yes, Toby, you are probably right about the numbers they have in their boneyards compared to what we have in service.

Sad to see, but always interesting. I'd love to have a fully kitted-out B-52 cockpit section to play in. ;-)
