Leuchars Airshow

Post by forthbridge »

Hey all

Stunning weather yesterday (sadly cloudless skies not best for Leuchars as the crowdline looks straight into the sun)... but a good day nonetheless.... here's a selection of shots from yesterday:

Needless to say a certain aircraft was attracting much attention:

And for the first time in years the crowd was treated to the Vulcan showing off

(The break at the display centre is still astounding as it pitches over!!)

All in all, worthwhile going, although the position of the sun there makes shots hard work on a cloudless day.
It was also sobering, as there were (Hawks excepting) only a Typhoon, Harrier and one each of the Tornados of the jet fleet on static, and a single 111 sqn F3 took to the sky for a 'display' of sorts late in the day.

I can't not mention the traffic management. In most recent years I've trained it to the show, but drove this year. Absolutely perfect getting in and parked, but we travelled a total of 300 yards in FOUR HOURS in the chaos that was happening as there was apparently no marshaling of traffic heading out. (for a while anyway) Once we reached the last hundred yard to the exit gate, it was fine, but all we could see were the traffic management bods standing together gassing as thousands of cars sat going nowhere. Having been by car before (a few times) and taken no more than half an hour to get off base, I wish I knew what the cause was!

Anyway, the contractor's ineptitude aside, I'd do it again tomorrow!

Excellent shots!

I love the heat trails from the Vulcan and Mig 29. Nose on of the Vulcan is also very good.

Cheers
