AA classic flight have been looking for a new home for a while, just hope they're able to fly out when they - hopefully - do find a new home.

This thread has gone very quiet - does anybody know what is actually happening? I cannot find anything on the web either, other than:
Classic Flight: http://www.atlanticairlines.co.uk/
Says December 12th engine run-up cancelled but lists proposed flights for 2010. No mention of a new base now or proposed.

Atlantic Airlines: http://www.atlanticairlines.co.uk/
"From our Coventry base in the UK our Operation runs twenty four hours, seven days, every day to service your air cargo needs."

Coventry Airport: http://www.coventryairport.co.uk/
As if nothing has changed . . .

Coventry Airport Supporters: http://www.supportcoventryairport.co.uk/
Says nothing about closure.

And although the BBC specifically said that a NOTAMS was issued about the airport closure, nobody seems to know of one.

Odd, innit.

Hi John, I think that just covers the tower, so I'm sure the airfield is still useable. Does anyone who knows about such things know what the situation is? Can Air Atlantic still use the airfield without ATC?

Hi All,

The ATZ provides protection for aircraft using an airfield, from traffic transiting overhead - so the suspension of the ATZ doesn't actually affect the airfield being used. I don't know what the logistics are for the operating in/out - but there are rumours of potential buyers and deals falling through on various other forums ?

Cheers

Now that is a good point - you can land anywhere without ATC, even in a field if it suits you. :o)

But I imagine the key question is the ownership of the airfield. If it no longer belongs to the airport authority, would any aircraft have any authority to land there? Who would be maintaining the runways etc. Although Atlantic used to own the airfield, they sold it so presumably leased their buildings back but might no longer have the right to use them. Its all a big puzzle to me . . .

I do hope somebody with local knowledge can tell us.

Last I heard, it was operating as an UN-licensed aerodrome, subject to necessary permission from landowner for its' useage,
which therefore precludes use by a commercial operator.

Cheers Pete. So would this mean AA could still fly in and out for maintenace etc, but actually use other airports for their base, or would they not be allowed to operate from there under any circumstance?

This is only a guess but if AA are allowed to take-off and land then there should be no problem regarding operating their aircraft providing they do not carry fare paying passengers in and out of it?
