Haiti

Post by Garry Russell »

May I just express my sadness and sorrow for the people of Haiti.

A tragedy of a type and scale most of use could not ever imagine. I hope that thre is something no matter how large or small we can all do to help a people that has rather a raw deal at the best of times.

Indeed. I couldn't believe what I saw on the BBC News website this morning. Thoughts and prayers with all those affected.

Very sad. I would imagine the Dominican Republic may have been affected also. Maybe not of the same magnitude. I was there this time four years ago.

What makes it such a potential distaster is there appears to be about a million people living in the affected area.

Regretaably the toll will be so much higher simply because the task is so immense, help for some, will never come in time.

True mate. Will have a huge impact on tourism as well as the damage will take years (if at all!) to repair. Nature can be very cruel. :((

They have frequent natural distaers, a couple of years ago there were four devastating hurricanes in a short space of time. It is a also a very poor and socially violent place,

It doesn't give the people much of a chance to ever get properly back on their feet and that is in the normal run of things.

This is the worst earthquake for two centuries so what chance do they have after this?
