Retiring from FS. Do I get a presentation clock?

20 years of dedicated service, man and boy! And now to put my feet up and leave the virtual world to you youngsters

The last few months, all I seem to be doing is fiddling with add-ons, Real Environment, nHancer, Ttools or whatever and seldom do any flying! I know what the problem is - I want to move on to FSX but to do so would mean buying a new desktop plus all the add-ons that make FSX look good. But a laptop is so practical and having both is just silly so I'm calling it a day.

I'd have still kept FS9 if the FSX CS757 hadn't completely buggered up FS9 as well as FSX and even a re-installation hasn't sufficiently recovered its performance. And yesterday the joystick died as well. I can't fight it any more - time to stop struggling

So for the first time in living memory there's no trace of any flight simulator on a speedbird PC Oh well - soon be decent biking weather and there's a course on website design I want to do ... or maybe photography ...

I'll still be popping in here to keep in touch with what's going on - in case I ever decide to re-join the community. And there's always Graham's jokes for a good laugh. So don't start talking about me behind my back 'cos I might be lurking!

Oh dear, it nearly happened to me once when my old computer refused to run FS decently, began to wonder whether it was worth continuing but I did. FS runs OK now, not brilliant though and there are times when I wish myself that I could move further on with more upgrades!!

Sorry to hear that you have decided to hang up your flying gloves Ian, have always enjoyed your comments and points of view not to mention your videoing skills!! That also includes (cough) some of your approaches!!

Hope you do keep coming back if only to show how many muddy puddles you have landed in on your biking trips, wish you all the very best Ian and keep in touch.

I would gladly make you a CLOCK.gau to put in any aircraft you choose, I could make it a Gold Framed Carriage Clock with glass cover and oscillating crystal balls as the pendulum..... but if you're not running FS then it would be of no use!!

It would sit nicely on top of any instrument coaming and probably act as a nice reference point for runway aiming points. Would also double up a Turn Cordinator as you watch it slide about.

If you haven't yet bought the laptop then a Dell XPS or Alienware gaming laptop will easily cope with FSX! (as long as you can afford £1000-£1500)

I think its a short term illness mate.

Makes you sick of FS for a while but the effects wear off.

I had it a while back. Nearly put my FS9 & FSX discs in the bin. (well on EBAY actually)

Uninstalled everything one evening and swore I would'nt wrap my hands round the saitek ever again.

But I missed it. Badly.

And it was'nt long before I was reinstalling the sim and all the add on's. Thankful that I had'nt sold them to someone on EBAY for peanuts.

Your stunning screenshots posted over the last few months are testiment to a person who loves the sport.

It would be a shame to bin it for the 'young uns' when its people like yourself that the young un's look up to.

Make of this bullcr@p what you will.

What I will say is; Don't bin those discs just yet.

EDIT - Make sure you keep going with the bike riding. Thats compulsory.

Go and do a PPL . It's cheaper than buying everything again for FSX, probably...

Ian,I know exactly how you feel.Although I don't bugger around with FS settings/add ons etc as much as many folk do,I don't seem to do as much 'flying' as before and at the moment I just don't feel committed enough to spend the dosh which would be needed in order to get a pc which would run FSX acceptably.I said on this forum many moons ago that FSX would force a split in the FS community.
As others here have said,maybe it's just a passing phase.For now I will just carry on as normal.Maybe my hand will be forced if/when the current pc goes t!ts up.
