The Wonders of technology!

Post by DaveB »

Hi Chaps.. :hello:

I've been getting a reminder for a few days now saying that a Java update was available. I don't really know what Java does and I can't remember now why I had to install it in the first place (as is so often the way) but.. fed up of getting the reminder, I let it install :cpu: A nice little box came up while Java was updating telling me 'Java is used in all kinds of applications from mobile phones to blu-ray players blah, blah, blah' which was nice.. I thought!
Install complete (no restart required.. a bonus) so off I went to my second (or is that first) home.. CBFS. ;) All still works well until I notice that when my cursor hovers over a word.. a little box comes up offering the same word in Spanish! :-O I clicked on 'delete' and it went away but when I moved the cursor over another word/set of words.. the same thing happened  After a bit of fiddling, I found a box that I can de-select 'auto translation' so have now done so.

Aren't PC's clever as well as useful *-) :wasntme: :worried: ;)

Dave, one quirk with Java is that when you update, a lot of the old version files are left behind. Not critical, but over time they begin to waste disk space as you update to newer versions. JavaRa from http://raproducts.org/ is freeware and will remove the old versions. I have used it for over a year now and have had no problems with it.
