I hadn't realised they'd painted no1 in LNWR black! I live just down the road from Tywyn, in Fairbourne, so I tend to use their shop as my nearest railway book shop on the way back from the Co-Op.
The Tal-y-Llyn are having a "Have a Go" weekend on the 3-4 July when it will be possible to have footplate rides, have a go at firing or driving, or drive a diesel for a fiver. Sounds like it should be a good day to visit, I'm hopefully going to go just to see if I can get a go of something!
I'm planning a trip on the new Welsh Highland Railway on Thursday, it hasn't yet reached Porthmadog but has got as far as Pont Croesor about three miles from the town, and which has a car park. It closed in 1933 and has taken several years to re-instate it, and it uses ex South African Garrett locomotives to cope with the severe gradients on the line which are huge relative to the track gauge, the complete opposite of the Tal-y-Llyn. I'll try and get some pictures weather permitting.

Last time I had a ride in one of those was about ten years ago. Impresive little loco's, especially the Garret style ones.
