Some cycling in Des Moines

Post by cjw50310 »

Thanks to the fourteen inches of rain we've received so far this month, I've been relegated to more urban riding lately.

Today was the first sunny day in quite a while, and I managed a few snaps whilst cycling.

A couple of the Des Moines River - normally there's much more river bank showing:

The capitol building framed through a new pedestrian/bike bridge over the river:

Downtown buildings through said bridge:

And a few snaps along a creek out in the suburbs:

The bendy bits are quite fun when conditions warrant, but since the the paving was underwater this past weekend it's still quite gritty and slow.

Thanks for looking,
Chris

Lovely shots Chris.Would you believe that 14 inches of rain wouldn't come amiss in the UK right now!(not all at once of course)I was in the Lake District recently which is one of the wettest places in the UK and the water levels were well below normal.Great weather for a holiday though!EricT :)

Great shots Chris! I think I recall you posted some pictures of Des Moines a few months ago. Certainly looks like a lovely place to live.
Hey! send some of that rain here - we are parched! June so far has had 18 days over 90F. Finally today we have some lovely (for this time of year) Canadian air aloft and the temps are below average.

If I could send some rain to you I would, most definitely. The weather service has warned we could get an additional 1 to 3 inches Sunday, which we certainly don't need. There's a bit of river flooding going on, but nothing disastrous yet. Thankfully, I'm on a hill that's at least 100 feet higher than normal river levels, so I'm sure it'll stay dry here.

Nice pictures, Chris. Thanks for those. You've got some nice cycling options there for an urban setting. It looks like a lovely city to live in.

Ian :)
