I'd say by the sound of his accent, he's not from the area mate.
momentarily disoriented was all.
.. I once took some great pictures in Chicago only to find out later I had taken them on magic disappearing film I bought by mistake.

He's British and impatient too
The impatience probably stopped him setting it up properly

He was located in the VIP viewing area.
I photographed a night launch of Shuttle from that area myself....
suffices to say ...there was no problem identifying which launch pad was being used.

Re: How To Film a Shuttle launch
It must be hard though Joe
There are two launch pad side by side....but which one do you aim the camera at???
One is empty with the gantry swung back
The other has a deta winged spacecraft strapped to two huge boosters sitting on the side of an enormous browish-orange tank leaking vapour from various parts of it's anatomy
Easy mistake to make really

With a white-haired spokesman called Chester Whitehair I thought it was going to be a spoof. Then calling the Delta 2 explosion an "anomaly" didn't help.
