Calm pilot

Post by nigelb »

A Cessna 172 pilot finds himself in an emergency situation and handles it in a very calm manner. The link is for the audio for the dialogue between the pilot and ATC.

If there is nothing you can do about it then why worry, just get on with it. "Accept the landing" as the paras say.

What is equally impressive is that the Houston Tracon controller not only stayed with him but vectored the Police helicopter to him

I also love the fact that the ATC has to tell the police chopper twice that she's vectoring him for an aircraft in distress. I don't think they quite understood her the first time when she starts rattling off all this stuff to vector him in.

(BTW, I'm not sure how it is in the UK, but according to a friend who had done Police Helo work on and off said that most EMS and Police aircraft are "on call" to ATC and if requested will respond to an ATC situation as if they were a dispatcher in case of emergency)
