I'm doing an independent 12 day holiday in early October, flying to/from Boston then driving around via, just north of New York to Washington then, taking the train back to Boston. I've already ear-marked the Smithsonian Air and Space Museums in Washington (Downtown + Dulles), as well as the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum (I'm a train spotter in addition to being a propeller head!) in Strasberg PA. (Amish country). Anybody on here who may have any other general/specific suggestions for an air/rail enthusiast ?
Additionally, I shall probably 'chill-out' first for a couple of days in the Boston area - any recommendation for say, a specific resort or place at this time of year? I quite enjoy cycling and swimming, amongst other physical activities.
Don't worry if you don't, I have some ideas but, can always appreciate input from like-minded people, either side of the Pond.

While In DC a trip to Silverhill (The Smithsonian Annex) might be worth it, and the museum at Dulles.
