Around the world in FS

How many of you have flown around the world within Flight Simulator?

I am trying to decide what I will use for round the world trip.

I have flown as part of a team in the flight sim Round the World Race twice but I have never done it 'solo'.

A guy on the A2A forums did it twice, once in the A2A B377 Stratocruiser and once in the A2A J3 Cub. He posted almost daily updates of his progress too with lots of photos.

I guess aircraft choice depends on what style you like to fly. If a guy can do it in a Cub it's possible in almost anything if you have enough time and patience to complete it.

I've done it just once and I flew Concorde...but that's almost like cheating isn't it. I don't remember the route I flew but I distinctly remember flying over Afghanistan in the dead of night. An eerie feeling for sure. :worried:

As part of ATA Virtual I did a flight recreating one of ATA's two around-the-world charter packages. The one I flew was in the 707-320 and made a single circumnavigation, but the other flight, in the L-1011, actually made two complete circumnavigations of the globe before returning to KIND. ATAV shut down just after the real world airline did, so I never got to fly the second one. I don't recall the exact route but I do know I left Indianapolis and flew to Gander, then to England, the Czech Republic, Israel, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia, Fiji, Hawaii, Los Angeles and finally back to Indy. There were more stops than that, just can't remember them all. The L-1011 flight I actually still have the dispatch report for:

I've been think about doing it in FSX. Just not sure which aircraft I should use though.

I've done it in A Viscount 700, VC 10, BAC One-Eleven and Britannia

Don't ask the routing as I made it up as I went along looking for an airport within time range and sometimes diverting so I could go to bed.

Not very techincal :$

The best way to do it is in something you really like but importantly, something that will be able to cover the vast distances of water you have to cross. The aircraft that gave me the most head scratching was the Dove. I had to bin a lot of seats and fit a LR tank in the rear cabin but I got there in the end ;) Also done it in a Varsity, VC10, Trident/1-11/Viscount mix, Shackleton.. and quite a few more :)

Do you accelerate simulation speed on cruise level?
Or would you consider that cheating on yourself?
