Pointless Simulation?

Post by Tomliner »

I see that a Titanic Simulation is about to be released. Now I may be a bit wide of the mark but if it consists of setting sail and then (surprise surprise) hiting an unavoidable iceberg, then what is the bloody point?
Oh,I know,I'll go back to the start and try again.Oh oh,iceberg again! :doh:EricT
Now at the age where I know I like girls but can't remember why!

I guess because if they called it RMS Olympic simulator it wouldn't sell as much.

Although you can use the Titanic in Microsoft Ship Simulator as well as lots of others so on that front it seems a bit lightweight unless they have modelled every aspect of the internals of the ship with a full free control walk through like a FPS. But then apart from being an interesting look around a few times that would get boring after a while.

Just what everyone needs(!) A disaster simulator. As if we are not depressed enough these days.

What a morbid and pointless exercise. :wall:

The secret is to try and not steer into the iceberg...which is what happened according to this week's revelations by the grandaughter of Second Officer Charles Lightoller ( as played by Kenneth More in the film A Night To Remember).

Anyone ever play Titanic: Adventure out of Time ? It really was very good, though I never managed to complete it. Wouldn't mind having another go if it will run on Win 7 64 bit. :)

That theory has been banded aground for as long as I remember

The command was hard a starboard which meant turning to port as actually turning to starboard would have turn it into the berg.

So in the confusion it has been mooted since the original inquiries that he may have actually turned to starboard initially, but of course the rudder area was too small and the centre prop not reversible and it was no surprise to anyone that it didn't start turning in time.

There has been quite a lot of age old familiar theories being brought up recently as something "new".

Hindsight is a wonderful way of putting across new ideas to make a story fit the events. :)

Personally (with hindsight  ) they shouldn't have turned at all and hit bow on, damage yes but no loss of ship or passengers.

But then again, (with hindsight again) if it hadn't been delayed by over an hour leaving Southampton after the incident with the SS New York, or they didn't go to Cherbourg first, or stop off at Queenstown or, or, or.....etc.
