FlyBe using 146's again

Post by Garry Russell »

Well.almost

For a few weeks they have been leasing a single RJ-85 from CityJet

This is used on certain days and is no particular aircraft....just what around

EI-RJY today (EDI-JEY), EI-EJD was in service last Saturday (EDI-JEY) and 'RJZ the week before that..not sure the route

Still, even only briefly, it's nice to see them using a real aeroplane again

They are due a couple of Dash Eight returns from, Olympic at the end of this month and that, along the closing season will probably see an end to this.

That's interesting. When I last worked in Belfast, Flybe RJ's were still flying into the city airport. I'll be in Belfast for two months from next week so I'll keep an eye out.

I was lucky enough to fly on one a few years ago when the Dash 8 I was supposed to be returning on went tech  People weren't happy when they had to share their plane with passengers from another flight, seat numbers on the ticket was worthless!

The 100's were scrapped and some of the others have been partially stripped.

Up to the leasing company, I supposed they will continue to be stored as stock but in reality more will be parted out.

With complex airframes and four engines they are just too expensive to run, the reason Flybe parted with them after not being able to swap the lot for new RJ.X's

Ironically, BAe did offer to build the Flybe order but Flybe declined as future support at a reasonable cost and the in ability to expand the fleet late put paid to that and so the went looking elsewhere for re equipping.
