Autothumbnail 2 for FSX

Post by DarrenL »

Does anyone have this working? I have FSX Acceleration and despite running the setup program and checking it's correctly listed in the exe.xml file it doesn't get listed in my addons drop down menu.

It's 2nd of 2 in the exe.xml, after AICarriers but I have 4 options in my addons as below

AICarriers
FSUIPC
FSLabs
VistaMare

Other than AICarriers the other 3 do not appear in my exe.xml so could they be taking the place of Autothumbnail?

Or is it just incompatible with FSX Acceleration?

Thanks.

Ps. If so does anyone have FSX thumbnails for Pack 1 & 2 of the Vanguards, to save me screenshot making, finding out which aircraft folder I need and pasting...and repeat for 2hrs ;)

Are you using Win7 64bit by any chance?

Normaly Autothumbnail is incompatible with 64bit OS's, but someone did recompile the source code into a 64bit version.

IIRC there is a link in one of the Avsim forums. I'll see if I can find it.

EDIT: Found the link: http://www.zshare.net/download/691719708cc75b0c/

Got it working but it doesn't do what I expected it to do, it only creates the same thumbnail for every aircraft based on the one aircraft (so they are all the same). So in the end I ended up spending a lot of time producing thumbnails for each aircraft. Something which I could have done with Fraps or even basic PrtScr copy & paste.

If anyone else would like these I have packed them up here - http://www.mercia.biz/fsx/FSX_Vanguard_thumbnails.rar

Hi Darren :)

An impressive display of Vanguards there ;) Thumbnails is one of the few things I like about FSX (I'm sad to say). Had I have been a 'bon oeuf'.. I might have included thumbnails in the VA packs but to be honest with you, it's something I never even thought about. :worried:

*-) From the menu you should have 3 choices.
(from memory, so the wording may be different!)

1) Create thumbnail for current scheme
2) Create thumbnails for all schemes
3) Create thumbnails for all - don't overwrite

Option 1 should just create a single thumb for the current livery only
Option 2 creates thumbs in all texture folders using the current livery
Option 3 is the same as option 2 but won't overwrite existing thumbnails.

Sounds like you used option 2 :dunno:
You really need to load each scheme in turn and create it's individual thumbnail.

Yep which is just as time consuming, I normally PrtScr in the spinner and the crop the image, call it thumbnail.jpg and drop it into the correct folder while I have FSX running, because FSX reads the entire aircraft folder list each time (why they didn't use a smaller data file for the menu which has the thumbnail data in it I don't know) so when I go back to the big list the new thumbnail shows up. But with the Vanguards it was hard to keep track of which one was which so I in the end used Autothumbnail by loading each aircraft into the same scene setting the outside view up similarly for each and taking the snapshot. Took a long time.......

Still it's been done now :)

That's pack 1 & 2 in the RAR file above.

Has anyone autothumbnailed a set of thumbnails for the 1-11?

If so, please link -- otherwise I was thinking of trying it myself (using what I'm guessing is Autothumbnail 1, dated 23/1/2007) to make my Aircraft Selection box look more pretty. If I do and anyone might be amused to see the results, I'd happily upload them somewhere.

Going by Autothumbnail's readme, the now-defunct email of the (French) person who wrote it is the same as for the logbook editing program I use to reduce the number of logbook entries, correct registration numbers, etc. Anyone know what became of him? (her?)
