Bad week for electronic aircraft !
Following on the heels of the A380 with the inability to shut down down the no 1 engine , ( and before that the inability to cut off fuel following use of the fire bottles in the 777 crash at Heathrow ) the 787 has made an emergency landing with fire in the aft electronics bay which caused loss of all PFD information . My faith in electronics with little redundancy is being eroded

I must admit. As new and impressive as the mighty A380 is. I'd be rather nervous flying on it.
But then again I do hate flying as a passenger.

The A380 is quite relaxing to be on tbh, it's as quiet, smooth and solid feeling as a big ship

It's worth pointing out that the same day as the 380 an ATR.72 crashed killing 68 and the following day a Beech 1900 crashed killing 21
Also this month has seen incidents involving Boeing 737, Twin Otter and Beech 99 without fatalities
Yet all that gets talked about is the A.380
Sure..there's a problem and most aircraft suffer unforeseen incident with airframe or engine
But they build in safety.....they got it down.....they'll sort it out
The talk in the papers about RR could be ruined by this is pure stupidity
Things happen..........that's life.

Thats the media all over for you mate.
The media spotlight is very much focused on the A380 as its a milestone in the aviation industry.
Any aircraft crash whether fatal or not is a serious incident. But an incident involving the A380 is going to attract the media instantly.
I think all eyes will be on the A380 during its infancy and for years to come. At the end of the day (never thought I'd ever say this about an airbus) its an interesting Aircraft.
I'm sure its a very safe Aircraft and its passed a whole host of safety checks to be certified for airline service - but I'd still be a bit nervous on one. But thats just me being a wuss.

Little update on the Dreamliner.....
Update 10:08 AM ET: Boeing released some additional details this morning, including the total occupancy of the aircraft, which stood at 42 at the time of the incident. That number is not uncommon when beginning a remote stay as the plane acts as a ferry for test crews. Boeing says "contrary to some reports" the pilot did not lose primary flight displays during the fire, though did not specify if any of the five were inoperative at the time of the fire.
Additionally, programmes sources say ZA002 test crews in Texas are being updated on the status of the aircraft in a briefing this morning.
This is a developing story and will be updated.

The next day, a Qantas 747 turned back to Changi with an engine fault (Apparently it was the same flight crew as the A380 incident)
And what did our Oz ABC do?
Praise the flight crew and applaud Qantas training standards? - Heaven forbid!...
On the 5am radio news, I heard "Another Qantas flight has made an emergency landing at Singapore after an engine failure...the 747's engines are made by Rolls Royce"
Tabloid smear at its worst - no doubt there will be an award for "Most damage to industry icons achieved in one sentence" or somesuch.
