Hi AD
Why bin it??
You could just leave it there and maybe one day get the problems sorted out......then you will have both running
I don't.....or rather can't use FS.X atm but I have no plans to uninstall it

Yup.. I'd keep it too unless the install is corrupt. There's nothing like a change every now and again and if you uninstall it, you won't have that option. I seem to remember you binning large parts of it (areas you never fly in).. perhaps to save disc space and this may be the root of your problems. Leave it until another day.. you may feel less likely to smash your pc up then

Re: Fed up with FSX
Have you tried this?
http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html
It's been discussed at some length on Sim-Outhouse.
Input some basic details of your hardware setup & upload your fsx.cfg file, it will analyse it and produce a supposedly optimised fsx.cfg for your system.
Might be worth a try?

Re: Fed up with FSX
Never heard of this online FSX.cfg creation site. Might try it out and see what it does.
I will put FSX back on and leave for when I want to use it. Got a terabyte drive so space is no problem.

Re: Fed up with FSX
Tried it last night and my frame rates seemed to improve and the whole FSX ran much smoother. So give it a go, it may be just what you want. I am certainly happy with the results so far.

Re: Fed up with FSX
I usually avoid these tweaks like the plague and keep to a standard cfg. file as I find, at best, they do nothing and, if unlucky, you can end up having to reinstall FSX, but this one seemed like a good idea so I gave it a shot.
The whole process is very slick and it came up with what I thought were really good suggestions so went ahead and installed it and was relieved to find that my first instincts were right, it cut frame rates in half and turned a smooth display into a somewhat less than smooth display, but it might just be my system, its worth a try.

Hi Rob
You could have just been on the other side of the line and in fact already had found your optimum settings.
I might give it a try with mine sometime as it is so dire anything would be an improvement

Re: Fed up with FSX
As long as you make backups of backups of backups it's worth a go, I copied my FSX.cfg to the desktop and uploaded from there, and downloaded the update and called it FSX-new.cfg Then renamed it and copied it in, makin gsure my previous FSX.cfg was safe.
It made the following changes.

Apart from bloom and shadows (which I will probably turn back on), the others are new to me.
I'll see if I can see any improvements later
