You didn't miss much Dave, I'm sure the story you made up is quite close to what was said
Basically a defect on the right main gear was discovered during the flight and the captain notified Schiphol. The aircraft then flew around over the North Sea for an hour and a half to burn up fuel (one reporter states that it was dumped, but a F-27 does not have that option). Cabin crew and 17 passengers were seated as far back as possible. The captain performed a smooth landing as shown, the spokesperson for Schiphol comments on that fact actually, that the landing was very skillfully performed. I don't know why that would make him sweat so much. Later on you can see the recovery where they tried to minimize extra damage to the right wing by using a jack in addition to the crane.
That's a loose and quick translation of the whole episode (it's two or three reports combined so there's a lot of repetition).
Due to shortages and cutbacks the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off.

Thanks for the translation! I did recognize a few words here and there - Amsterdam, Schipol and Stanstead. Oh and a couple of words that sounded like German and probably have similar meaning in both languages.
