Seems the Harriers may be practising for their 'goodbye' flypast or display.
Whilst walking the dog here in the Fens today, I spied a flight of about 8 Harriers flying manoeuvres in an incredibly tight arrowhead formation. They were really impressive.
Eat your hearts out, Red Arrows!
Hope I get to see it (at least on YouTube if nothing else) if that's what they are doing.

Re: Final Display?
This is happening next week, then (flypast), according to the local TV news today, at Wittering.
I'm off to walk the mutt again, so I'll keep my eyes peeled - not every day you get a free Harrier display

Re: Final Display?
Which GR3 model is that?

Re: Final Display?
No, John, it's from the Strike Fighters 2 sim.
There are Harriers in the default sim and its expansions, as well as Lightnings, Canberras and Hunters, but there are also a number of good add-on ones, including GR7's and AV8A/Bs.
The sim uses DX10 - hence the nice lighting and shadows. The terrain is a little lacking compared to some other sims (though there are good freeware terrains available at CombatAce), but at the price and considering it's an independant developer, it's well worth it. tbh, I haven't had so much fun in ages as the missions I've been flying in Vietnam, the Middle East and Europe in everything from a Mustang to an F-35.

Re: Final Display?
Got the right gen at last!
Still find it hard to believe.
What other bits of our once-proud history can we chuck away?
In fact, why don't we just ditch all of the armed forces and ask the Yanks to protect us?
Isn't that what we'll be doing now anyway, if the worst comes to the worst?
And wouldn't it be absolutely hilarious if they said 'No!'

Apparently the last Harriers left Wittering today for Cottesmore.Wg Cdr Jessett wrote:The last week has seen practice flights for the planned 16-ship flypast due to happen on December 15 at RAF Cottesmore.
